Virgin Remy Hair at 825 Upshur Street NW was broken into and burgled late Sunday night, with products and some electronics stolen. The national chain store sells high-end hair products like extensions, wigs and other accessories. Members of the community came out in the morning and volunteered to clean up the mess.

On the afternoon of Saturday, February 1st, a car drove past the Petworth playground at 8th and Taylor Streets NW, shots rang out from the car, children and parents dove for cover under slides, and a young man was shot in the foot. He’s not talking about what happened.

In the early evening of Thursday, February 13th, MPD was involved in a shootout with a suspect in an alley off of 8th and Upshur. At least six shots rang out, residents walking home dove for cover, an officer was injured, and after a pursuit with police, a young man was gravely shot.

Buna Coffeehouse, located at 4400 Georgia Avenue, was broken into overnight on January 2nd. The thieves broke a window on the side of the coffee shop and stole money from the register. Fortunately, Buna has a lot of security cameras, so MPD was able to get images of the people responsible for the burglary.
